What is a home health aide?
A home health aide (HHA) is a trained medical professional who provides in-home care and assistance to individuals who are unable to leave their homes for medical treatment or ongoing care. They typically work for a home health care agency and are required to have certification and training in basic medical procedures and patient care.
The duties of a home health aide can include:
- Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Monitoring and reporting changes in the patient's health status
- Measuring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse
- Administering medication as prescribed by a physician
- Assisting with mobility and transferring patients
- Providing companionship and emotional support
The goal of a home health aide is to support the patient's independence, maintain their health, and improve their quality of life while they receive care in the comfort of their own home.
