What Are Medicare Advantage Health Plans?
Medicare Advantage plans (also known as Part C) are health insurance plans which combine different kinds of Medicare coverage and benefits into one plan. All Medicare Advantage plans include Original Medicare, Part A - hospital insurance and Part B - doctors visits and other medical.
Medicare Advantage plans may also include additional benefits:
- Most plans include Part D - prescription drug coverage
- Dental
- Vision
- Hearing
Some Medicare Advantage plans include even more benefits, such as:
- Telemedicine visits
- Fitness memberships
- Healthy meals and vitamins
- Transportation to doctor visits
- Nutrition counseling
- Nurse helpline phone
Availability of plans and benefits depends on your location. When comparing Medicare Advantage plans, be sure to check the plan details for which extra benefits are included in each plan.
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies, which are approved by the government to offer Medicare coverage. Note that when enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan you may be required to see doctors which are in the insurance carrier’s network.
