What is assisted living?
There are three general levels of senior living: independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. Assisted living communities are best for seniors who cannot be fully independent and require some assistance with daily living activities. The goal of assisted living is to help residents maintain their independence and dignity while receiving the support they need.
Assisted living services can be provided at a freestanding location or as part of a retirement community, hospital, or skilled nursing home. Assisted living facilities in a community setting typically encourages healthy living and social interaction with other seniors.
